Gianluca Petrella was born in Bari in 1975 and studied at the local conservatory. Since 1994, he has worked with many leading international musicians and participated in many jazz festivals. In 2001, he was voted “best new talent” (Musica Jazz) and won “new talent of the year” at the important “Django d’Or”. He also won “best jazz musician in 2005” (Musica Jazz). Recently, the critics from Down Beat selected him as winner of the Rising Star category for trombonists, the first time an Italian has won such an award in its 54-year history.In 2005, his group – Indigo 4 – recorded a CD that won critical international acclaim.
